At this time, students who do not physically live in California are not permitted to take fully online courses from American River College. Federal regulation requires institutions offering distance education to acquire authorization from any U.S. state in which it “operates.” ARC does not have the required permission for students from other states to take courses at ARC.
This permission is required to maintain eligibility for students of that state to receive federal financial aid. Information about state authorization is available at WCET (WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies). Until further notice, ARC is not filing for authorization to operate in other states. We recommend that students seeking community college courses look for classes offered from an institution in their own state.
WCET (WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies) is a division of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education an organization dedicated to promoting innovation, cooperation, resource sharing, and sound public policy in Distance Education.
